The El Badi Palace is all that remains of a palace in Marrakesh, Morocco, built by the Sa’dian sultan Aḥmad al-Manṣūr al-Dhahabī in 1578, which originally had around 360 rooms, a courtyard 135 m long and 110 m wide and a swimming pool 90 m long and 20 m wide, richly decorated with Italian marble and large quantities of gold, imported from Africa sub-Saharan. On the lower floor there are four cells, in a prison corridor, where the king kept his prisoners. The palace, built in about 25 years, was destroyed by the Alawite sultan Mulay Ismāʿīl, who used the materials to decorate his palace in Meknès.The architecture of the palace is strongly influenced by the Alhambra in Granada. In one of the restored pavilions, you can admire the minbar of the Mosque of Kutubiyya.
